Germany

1. C.O.N. SONANZA e. V.

It is a cultural and social project for children and young people. It was founded in Munich, in 2017, and follows the focus of the financing program of El Sistema de Venezuela. CON SONANZA’s project initiators and teachers include founding members of the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra, musicians and educators from other El Sistema orchestras, as well as German orchestras and music academies.

They offer excellent and free music education for children and young people with and without musical knowledge. Through regular and joint learning and practice in the orchestra or choir, the musical skills of the participants are comprehensively promoted.

Fun is the essential factor and, therefore, the motivation of young people occurs from the beginning. Through regular practice, they gradually learn to read music and technique. The basis of the training is a concept of musical education from El Sistema. It has been developed for more than 40 years and is focused on motivating children.

2. Hangarmusik

Since 2016, this musical project has allowed refugee children to become part of their local community by engaging in classical music in an orchestral setting. Together, in groups, they learn to play an instrument from scratch and have the opportunity to play alongside local resident children and professional musicians.

Playing together promotes social skills in infants that help them feel part of a community. They visit professional orchestras and perform regularly with guest musicians, this ensures that they gain a wide and varied experience of the world of music and a general worldview.
The aim of Hangarmusik is to create a children’s orchestra in which music by Beethoven, Mahler and Mozart is played, and at the same time, a sense of community and social competencies can be established.

The institution cultivates these objectives as an important step within the integration of the children involved and this is the spirit that is at the heart of all its activities.

Greece

1. El Sistema Grecia

El Sistema Greece is a community music project that since 2016 provides free music education to children and young people in Greece. All children —no matter their origin, nationality, or religion— are not only inspired to strive for a better future, but thanks to music, they are given a platform for dialogue and togetherness across diverse communities.

The ultimate goal of El Sistema Greece is to promote the social inclusion and development of children in Greek society and build a new musical and human community with children from different horizons, whether they are refugees, migrants or Greeks.  The social project El Sistema Greece works hard to provide them with a sense of purpose, offering choir and orchestral instrument classes to children and youth from different backgrounds in order to enrich their lives and promote social mobility. Music is a universal language which can be a powerful tool for social inclusion and musical education has been proven to be an incredibly effective medium for achieving long term social change for both the children involved, and their families, worldwide.

Our educational approach builds on effective methods from Venezuela’s social action program El Sistema, adapted in over 60 countries and recognized as a tool for youth crime prevention by UNICEF. El Sistema Greece’s model strives to educate through inspirational, regular learning, integrate by bringing children and communities together and communicate through ambitious artistically rewarding performances that increase visibility and encourage better systemic support.

We combine learning and artistic excellence. On stage, the children are treated as true artists. They challenge external perceptions and demonstrate their great potential to add value as part of a community.

Over 2,500 children and youth between the ages of 3 and 26 have had access to El Sistema tuition since 2016.

Vozes, present since 2004, is a social program that works for the integration and cohesion of children and adolescents in underprivileged areas and with populations at risk of social exclusion. Inspired by the National System of Youth and Children’s Orchestras and Choirs of Venezuela, it offers free access to musical training to children from 4 years of age and without age limits, through 16 centers (Spaces Vozes) between public schools, institutes, civic centers and youth spaces, serving 696 boys, girls and adolescents in Barcelona, in the districts of Nou Barris, San Martín and San Andrés, and since 2015, in Madrid, in the district of Vallecas and Villaverde.

The Vozes Project has been created by systematizing the instruction and the collective and individual practice of music through symphony orchestras and choirs, as instruments of social organization and humanistic development.

It is a project open to society, with a high concept of musical excellence, which contributes to the integral development of the human being. It is linked to the community through exchange, cooperation and the cultivation of transcendental values that affect the transformation of the child, the young person and the family environment.

There is a human resource aimed at achieving a common goal, with mysticism and enthusiasm, forming highly motivated multidisciplinary teams identified with the Institution. Vozes carries out its activities in a total of 10 neighborhoods, the least favored in the districts of Nou Barris, San Martín and San Andrés. If we consult the Plan for Social Inclusion, the neighborhoods where Vozes is carried out respond to an area of action where the average per capita income is the lowest in Barcelona, the academic level is very low or without studies and / or school certificate, with great incidence of beneficiaries with RMI (Minimum Insertion Income), with a high profile (in some neighborhoods of Nou Barris it can reach up to 84.4% of) foreign population, with a high degree of school absenteeism and where the rate of minors attended for social services it is over 25%.

Vozes promotes social cohesion and educational connectivity within these 3 districts. The Vozes collective has various origins and encompasses very diverse groups of participants: Native and immigrant children and youth from 4 years of age and with no age limit and their relatives, prioritizing middle-income families with limited economic resources, in situations of risk and exclusion. Social. Children and young people from programs for the protection of women from mistreatment environments, this group has recently been receiving a wider reception, having designed a special plan from Vozes.

Sweden

1. El Sistema Suecia

The purpose is to provide children with tools that contribute to the development of their lives through the discovery of the beauty of music, the development of creativity and composition among themselves.

The vision is to give children the opportunity to have a positive development through musical knowledge, the creation of choirs and orchestras.

Music is one of the most powerful tools to express feelings, respect the rules, be supportive, live in harmony and together. Through the universal language of music you build bridges with all of humanity.

The Sweden System is part of a vision that drives the musical movement and that has been inspired by the only model for social inclusion through music that began in Venezuela since 1975, thanks to the work of the musician and economist José Antonio Abreu.

The System uses participation in music as an opportunity for intercultural dialogue and invites children and their families to integrate into cultural life.

Within El Sistema children have the time to focus on learning the basics of music. Infants learn in a playful way, but at the same time serious. His creativity, energy, composition, dreams and artistic practice are seen as the work of a professional.

The System uses pre-education, where older people with more experience teach younger people. We bring children together with professional musicians. The System begins at an early age, when children are in preschool.

Within the System the parents and representatives of the children are an important part of the musical training, that is why they are encouraged all the time to join the organization.

El Sistema is characterized by professional commitment and passion for music that contributes to shaping a better world, creating hope for the future and giving children the tools to empower themselves in their dreams.
Our priority is to work where it is most needed. Children have rights and it is necessary to give them the opportunity to be in contact with music regardless of their gender or in what part of the country they live.

We develop a qualified teaching environment for students to receive music practice at least 3 times a week. They all work under a common goal, which means that we also work with a repertoire of practice and teaching. Routine, discipline, continuity, quality, and interaction with others is an important part of our mission. Our teachers work as a team.

We train children from an early age to adults. We care about critical communication research and guaranteed quality, innovation and knowledge development.

We fight for integration, democracy, equality and diversity.
